Connect an AI assistant
TaricHive offers its tariff data to AI assistants over the Model Context Protocol (MCP), at
An assistant connected to it can look up codes, read measures and check a declaration line against the same data the web front-end shows, instead of answering from memory.
What you need
A TaricHive account. The first time an assistant connects, you are asked to sign in and to allow it to use the tools. Nothing has to be configured by hand: no client ID, no secret.
Connecting
- claude.ai: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, and enter the address above. Sign in when asked.
- Claude Code:
claude mcp add --transport http taric https://mcp.opentaric.eu/mcp, then/mcpto sign in. - MCP Inspector, for trying the tools by hand:
npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector, connect to the same address with the transport "Streamable HTTP".
The tools
Reading tools need the permission taric:read; validate_declaration also needs taric:calculate.
There is no duty calculator: it was removed on 2026-10-15 because its amounts could not be shown to
be right (measured against HMRC's published measures, it undercharged on about one GB duty in six).
| Tool | Scope | Purpose |
|---|---|---|

For a system that connects without a person signing in (a script, a service), ask the team that runs TaricHive: that uses a different kind of credential.
